Presentation Title: The Role of Social Capital in the Response to Cervical Cancer

Agnes Binagwaho, MD, M(Ped), PhD is the 2019 SGO Annual Meeting Presidential Invited Guest Speaker, who will present on Saturday, March 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Dr. Binagwaho is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in Kigali, Rwanda. After practicing as a pediatrician for over 15 years, Dr. Binagwaho led the National AIDS Control Commission between 2002 and 2008. She then served as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health of Rwanda from 2008-2011 and Minister of Health from 2011-2016. She has been a member of the United States National Academy of Medicine since 2016 and a fellow of the African Academy of Sciences since 2017. Dr. Binagwaho has contributed to multiple books and published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles.

In addition to her position at the University of Global Health Equity, Dr. Binagwaho is also a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, in Boston, MA; Professor of Pediatrics at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, in Hanover, NH; and Senior Advisor to the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO).
